Antoni Gaudí: The way he worked
Antoni Gaudí is a widely known architect. His works, which were initially harshly criticized, are now recognized as World Heritage Sites and attract millions of visitors. To this day, opinions remain divided on both Gaudí’s work and his character. Millions of people from all over the world look at his works with admiration, although he also faced much criticism during his lifetime. The fascination his work evokes prompts the question: What kind of personality does it take to design and construct such creations, as if his architecture were a self-portrait? The explanation for the uniqueness of his work lies in his relational life, his ties to those around him, and how those relationships are reflected in his work. When studying Gaudí, we believe it is essential to consider his work in the context of the time, and specifically, to analyze how he executed his creations. This study therefore focuses on Gaudí’s existence—on a way of being that is indelibly imprinted on his architecture—and on defining the relationship between his life and his work. This novel approach allows us to draw conclusions that remain relevant today.
