Description

This case is centered on a young recently graduated MBA, Maddox Marcus, who works in the Finance Department of AB InBev. The protagonist is tasked with valuing the company and coming up with some shareholder value creating ideas. Note that there also exists an AB InBev case where the central theme is cost of capital and EVA (F-959). Both cases can be taught as part of the same course, though this is not necessary as both can be taught separately.

Learning Objective

Using real market data (Bloomberg), the case is very practical which allows the instructor to focus on different steps within the calculations as well as provide context. Since the case provides strategic background, the instructor can merge strategic topics with financial, allowing for deeper and more holistic discussions. I use this case for MBA, EMBA and Executive Education. Depending on the audience, I focus on the technicalities (MBA and EMBA) or foster a more strategic discussion (EMBA and Executives). This case is best suited for corporate finance courses.
