Fiore di Zucca was one of Italy's leading producers of bags of ready-to-eat precooked vegetables. Francesco Ferrati, the chief operating officer, reviewed the results of a new policy of producing goods without waiting to receive orders from customers. He was satisfied with the improvement in customer response time. However, the inventory had expanded so much that one of the warehouses of finished products had almost come to a standstill twice due to lack of space.
