Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance-"la Caixa" Foundation: The Alliance for Childhood Vaccination
The collaboration between "la Caixa" Foundation and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, provides a valuable case study of the effectiveness of strategic partnerships between the private sector and nonprofit organizations. Founded in 2000 to improve equitable access to vaccines in low-income countries, as of 2024 Gavi has helped vaccinate more than one billion children and prevent 173 million deaths. Since its inception in 2008, the partnership between the two entities has made it possible to raise more than 467 million and vaccinate more than 10 million children in Africa and Asia, significantly impacting global health. This case study looks at fundraising strategies, the involvement of different divisions of CaixaBank, and the use of the Matching Fund to maximize donations. It also examines the challenges faced and solutions implemented to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of the program.
