When Judy Craymer managed to secure the rights to ABBA's songs from the composers Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, she began assembling the rest of the team for her project to create a musical. After facing several rejections from big names, she succeeded in convincing Catherine Johnson to become the scriptwriter. She appointed Phyllida Lloyd, a highly respected figure in the industry, as the director. Together, the three of them crafted the story, centered on a woman running a hotel on a Greek island and her daughter preparing for her wedding. After much effort, the musical Mamma Mia! premiered on April 6, 1999, in London's West End. It was a resounding success.
