Mamma Mia!: A woman's entrepreneurial journey (C) : The woman who gets things done
The success of the musical Mamma Mia! exceeded all expectations. Its creator and producer, Judy Craymer, initially rejected proposals to stage it on Broadway and in Las Vegas but accepted the one from Toronto. This allowed the team to learn the process of cultural adaptation involved in producing a show in another country.
Over time, Mamma Mia! began to be performed in an increasing number of countries (United States, Sweden, Germany, etc.). For this, they decided to translate the lyrics of the songs into the language of each location and make cultural adaptations accordingly. Meanwhile, the idea of developing a movie based on the musical began to take shape. After some hesitation, Judy agreed. The movie premiered in 2008, followed by its sequel 10 years later.
