Two IESE Cases Awarded at the 2024 EFMD Case Writing Awards: Responsible Leadership and Aerospace Technology

EFMD is a global non-profit organization whose mission is to promote and enhance excellence in the development of business management. It is internationally recognized as an accrediting body for business schools, business programs, and corporate universities.

The EFMD Case Writing Awards, organized in collaboration with The Case Centre and category sponsors, have recognized excellence in case writing and teaching since 1988. This competition encourages the development of high-impact cases across various business administration categories. It also promotes the case method, which analyzes real-world business scenarios, enhances problem-solving skills, and bridges the gap between theory and practice.

In the 2024 edition, announced in April 2025, of the EFMD Case Writing Competition, two cases from IESE were recognized. This achievement adds to the recognition received in February 2025 at The Case Centre Awards and Competitions 2025, where several IESE cases were honored as Award-winning cases. This prize, that have been presented since 1991, recognises those cases that have been used in the largest number of organisations across the globe in the past year in nine management categories.

IESE Awarded cases in EFMD Case writing competition:

"PLD Space" in the category: Bringing Technology to Markets.

The case, written by Alejandro Serrano and Philip Moscoso, follows CEO Ezequiel Sánchez as he defines the business model of PLD Space and determines the optimal level of vertical integration. He also faces the decision of whether to continue in-house manufacturing or outsource parts of the production process.

"Shifting Alliances in the Golf Industry" in the category: Responsible Leadership.

HEC Montreal professor David Pastoriza, along with IESE professors África Ariño and Ricardo Calleja, delve into the 2023 situation of the PGA Tour. That year, it announced plans to partner with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund as an investor—despite having previously dismissed the fund on moral grounds and opposed its financial involvement in golf.

IESE Awarded cases in The Case Centre Awards and Competitions:

"Schneider Electric: Linking Pay to ESG" awarded in the category: Finance, Accounting and Control

The directors of Schneider wondered about how to respond to the challenges posed by the pandemic. Should the board modify or adjust the implementation of their strategy with regards to ESG? Should they modify or adjust the sustainability reporting system? Should they reconsider the compensation policy?

"Nordic Technologies AB" awarded in the category: Entrepreneurship

The case describes the terms of an offer from a Scandinavian venture capital firm for second-round financing for an early-stage silicon chip technology company in Sweden.
