Performance Evaluation and Potential Analysis: Two Sides of the Same Coin
The objective of this note is to clarify the difference between evaluating past performance and predicting future performance, and to reflect on the relationship that these processes have with critical decisions such as those of pay, promotions and turnover, which have a direct impact on responsiveness to the environment. We will distinguish between the concept of assessing what has occurred de facto, which we will hereinafter refer to as goal-achievement evaluation (if it focuses on objectives) and performance evaluation (if it takes into account objectives and behaviors), and the concept of assessing personal skills for the future, which we will hereinafter refer to as potential analysis.
