Roqueta Origen (A): Succession With Roots
The essential issue in family businesses is succession. This case outlines a succession process that was managed successfully through the development of a Family Protocol. Throughout the case, we examine how the different players involved in the process prepare for the succession:
" The predecessor: How does he hone his sensitivities and how does he decide to begin the succession process and prepare for retirement?
" The successor: How does he prepare to take on new responsibilities?
" The company: How are the right changes made and how is the transition period handled?
" The family: Through the process of developing a Family Protocol, the entire family participates and agrees on the different aspects, including the succession process itself, regarding the ownership, governance and management of the family business.
By focusing on the people in the family, we are able to define each sibling's role and ensure that they all feel like they play a part in the shared project of the family business.
