Description
Since the beginning of the decade, Colombia has been implementing an in-depth reform of the health system, advocating independent administrative and financial management of public hospitals within a framework of competition between health service providers. The country's capital city, Santa Fe de Bogotá, has 32 public hospitals which, in 1997, were set up as state social enterprises, implementing independent management systems. The case analyzes existing problems and the proposal made by the department in an attempt to change the situation prevailing in public hospitals in Bogotá.
