After serving six years in the army as an officer (including two years in Iraq, working in the economic development unit of the Provisional Government formed in 2003), Thomas Smith decides it is time to redirect his career towards a job that is better aligned with his personal plans and salary expectations. However, shortly before ending his second year, while he is immersed in different recruitment processes in several firms, he receives an e-mail from a former friend of his, inviting him to join the management team of a foundation that is going to be created in Afghanistan.
