Three lenses for exploring the ethical dimension
Goods, norms and virtues are the three major axes around which ethical concepts are grouped. The main ethical theories (utilitarian, deontological and character) represent approaches focused on each of these elements. As proposed in this note, instead of choosing one theory or another, in order to obtain a complete vision of ethics, the three currents should be integrated into a single proposal. Thus, they can be considered as the lenses through which each of the moral dimensions of a decision can be captured. Only a formula that integrates the three elements will offer a comprehensive perspective of the ethical character of human action in organizations, which considers ethics as a way of thinking about business.
