Journeys to the Self: Using movie directors in the classroom - Teaching Note
The teaching note refers to the classroom use of two core instruments. One is a case study based on original research detailing the journey to personal and professional maturity of the Oscar-winning Spanish film director - Pedro Almodóvar (DG-1331-E). The second instrument is a documentary film: "Hearts of Darkness - A Filmmaker's Apocalypse" which chronicles the passage of Hollywood director - Francis Ford Coppola - in the problem-ridden Vietnam epic production, Apocalypse Now. The two directors have very different backgrounds, styles and sources of social support; and their work and careers unfold in the dissimilar dimensions of the craft-like European cinema versus that of the mass production Hollywood system.
