The Roots of Leadership
By
Stein, Guido
In this note we approach leadership, first, from the point of view of the myths that obscure the reality. We then look at the characteristics of people who have followers, given that leadership becomes a solitary exercise if it has no impact on other people. Second, we illustrate those characteristics through the story of the Persian king Cyrus, as depicted by Xenophon in his Cyropedia, a work which the world's foremost management scholar, Peter Drucker, describes as the first systemic book on leadership.
