Description

The case describes the events surrounding a experience of sexual harassment by a bank employee. After experiencing harassment in the workplace, the protagonist must decide whether to file a formal complaint or leave the bank.

Learning Objective

The case explores the difficulty of effectively addressing harassment in the workplace. Harassment is prevalent and difficult to resolve. Formal routes of filing complaints are often difficult to pursue for victims of harassment. There are also costs to direct confrontation and official reporting (i.e., retaliation, gossip, damage to reputation, stress and anxiety). The case explores these costs and highlights the need to build formal structures and informal climates that take these costs into consideration.
