RELE-Rouen: The family council
The case describes various members of the Demongeot family, the house and land that they currently rent from RELE Rouen, and the business in French language learning led by Béatrice and Maxime. An offer to take over the business and family property forced the two partners to call a family meeting and decide, among the five children of the family, whether to sell the house they had all grown up in. The difficulty arose from the need to individually assess this property and the French teaching business (RELE Rouen), since the purchase offer included both land and business.

Learning Objective
This case should be used immediately following the ASN-58 case. Its objective is for the participants to experience a negotiation (argument) between various family members who must decide whether or not to sell the family property. The negotiation (for about 30-40 minutes, approx.) Takes place in groups of 4 or 5 participants, each adopting a role described in the case. The last 30 minutes of the session serve to sum up the difficulties experienced in the family reunion, as well as the agreements reached. This simulation can be used in any introductory decision-making, business situation analysis, family business or negotiation course.
